This is another of Slafco's (Robert P. Schlaefli) planes after an accident during take-off. Jim McCown was the pilot. I need to find my notes, but here's what I recall from the interview: Something failed during take-off and the plane veered towards an earthen wall alongside the runway. Unable to stop the plane, Jim thought he was about to die. Suddenly, there was a gap in the wall and he steered the plane through it to the "safety" of the waterway. I think there was significant damage to the plane, but Mr. McCown was un-injured and had yet another harrowing adventure to tell.
