This photo's caption is incorrect. VP-9 has PBY-1s (notched elevators) and VP-10 has PBY-2s. (I can't see the top-side carburetor air-intakes of a PBY-3 on any of these planes.) Lt.Cmdr Spencer H. Warner is leading this flight consisting of 18 planes that departed San Diego 1938-Jan-18 and arrived Pearl Harbor Jan-19. The flight did break a record; perhaps in number of planes? See log book of Joel C. Stovall.
