Message:Both squadrons, of FAW-2, were stationed at Pearl Harbor before and during early WWII. I am trying to find out about plane #24-P-3. It apparently was borrowed from VP-24 and flown with 5 other planes of VP-23 under CDR Hughes from Pearl to Canton Island 15 Jan 42. On the night of 29-30 Jan, this plane was lost during the night flight back to Pearl. The plane and all 14 crew disappeared. The plane was piloted by ENS Stallcup, ENS John Paul Hart, and ENS C.L.Wene. Does anyone know how I can find out what kind of plane this was? PBY-3 or PBY-5? I am doing a story on John P Hart and this is the only piece of information I am missing. Information on VP-23 is scarce. Please respond to nckailua@aol.com Thanks!
